Permissions: OOPs! All Powers!

Objects of Power, or OoPs, are objects with thematic, extradimensional powers that grant Jesse the ability to use them when she is bound to them. As of post-game, she has access to the following OoPs:

  • The Service Weapon: a gun that ordains her by the BOARD to be the Director of the FBC. While its default form (Grip) is a basic handgun, it can also change shape to function as a shotgun (Shatter), a semi-automatic (Spin), an armor-piercing charged gun (Pierce), explosive charged rounds (Charge), and a sticky grenade launcher (Surge), though it will always be handgun sized. Rather than traditional bullets, it fires chunks of itself, and thus recharges over time. Canonically able to be used as other weapons and implied to be Excalibur.
Anyone who tries to steal the Weapon will not be able to fire it - you need to be bound to it for that, and it is bound singularly to Jesse.
  • Hotline: a Bakelite telephone that allows her to speak clearly with extradimensional entities, or the dead.
This means that rather than being able to directly contact Jesse, any initial attempts made by a character to contact her psychically will instead come through as a psychic overlay to Jesse, with no clear indication she has received the message from the sending character until/unless she directly contacts them in return.
  • Merry-Go-Round Horse: Grants Evade, which allows her to move in quick bursts of movement to dodge attacks.
  • Floppy disk: Grants Launch, which allows her to telekinetically hoist up to three large items, including people, and throw them around. Essentially amplifying her already-present telekinetic ability.
  • Home Safe: Grants the Shield ability, which lets her grab random items or debris around her to shield herself, and also fire them at offenders.
  • X-Ray Light Box: This allows her to Seize people, forcibly possessing individuals for brief periods but killing them from the psychic trauma afterwards.
  • Benicoff TV: Allows Jesse to Levitate, reaching a height of around 10 yards and allowing her to fall at a safe speed.

  • There's also the matter of Polaris herself: regardless of whether she's an alternate dimensional being attached to Jesse, or an innate part of Jesse manifested by Polaris or Hedron's general existence, the end result is the same - Jesse is the most powerful parautilitarian in the history of the FBC, and primed to be the next Director due to the massive amount of connections she can make to OoPs. As well, Polaris grants her some other abilities.

  • Jesse cannot be possessed or corrupted by any malevolent entity; Polaris essentially "silences" them to prevent them taking hold.
  • She can extend this protection to others, both by actively forcing out other entities, and by being a passive battery to the HRA units that protect other FBC agents from the Hiss.
  • The ability to connect to and travel through the Astral Plane unharmed, and by extension connect to multiple objects with extradimensional powers at no personal risk.
  • An implicit sense of where she is supposed to be going; less foresight or prophetic senses as much as a general vibe or particularly accurate gut instinct, as Polaris is shown to be guiding her to some degree.

  • Because some of these could of course be affecting other characters without their IC permission, here are some OOC permissions!

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Nope; no powers.
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? Sure!
Can she use Launch to throw your character? Yeah.
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? Probably not but always open to talk.

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Yes
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? No
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? No

    Jedao
Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? genuinely no idea if mothsong would count - normally a human couldn't hear it at all, and it's not psychic, just very teeny tiny gravitational waves. if anything, the Hotline might be able to pick it up and relay it to her when normally it would just ripple by. but possibly zero interaction!
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? lol sure, although he'll be fussy as a cat about it, and might fight it with his own TK
Can she use Launch to throw your character? jeez lady take him to dinner first
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? he has SOME defenses that I think would not keep her out but would cause it to be less traumatizing for him/he probably wouldn't die - he's kind of amphibious with regard to eldritch shit, and as Crowned With Eyes it's very "he can perceive and understand the deep patters/veils of madness that others can't" vibe. so if there's a meaningful plot opportunity for it MAYBE/we can discuss it

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? probably but it might depend on the circumstances
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? he might get glimpses, when Polaris is especially Present, but he might not know what to make of it
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? nah his mental abilities are mostly internal rather than external, and the powers he can use on other people are purely physical manipulation based on gravity changes

    Kahl
Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Kahl has the ability to walk in people's dreams, so i think the Hotline would block that if she was napping out of her cabin? he hasn't been using it much on the barge though
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? No - Kahl's divine will won't let him be moved around by someone else
Can she use Launch to throw your character? see above!
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? I'd be fine with her trying but I think they'd repel hard like positive magnets, because to go into Kahl *is* to be subject to his internal psychic/divine realm. Could be fun to explore sometime if he ever goes into a big messy destruction plot

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? i think IC he would react to it really poorly because he's got issues with silence, specifically, but OOC I'm down
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? yes
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? Kahl himself is fundamentally extradimensional, but one of the few real limits on gods in his books is that they can't read minds or do mind control magic - Souls Are Their Own. So he won't be trying any of that directly. He might make Dimmyi masks at some point, which are a magical art that like, uses the power of archetype to grant powers/impose a role on the wearer. I imagine she's familiar enough with OOPs and would classify a mask as such, and wouldn't put one on, lol. but polaris could maybe crack one if she did.

I picture if you don't understand it, it sounds like a cross between like, whalesong and those terrible nasa recreations of What It Sounds Like On Other Planets

and - hm! The masks are not necessarily directly wired to gods, or to Kahl himself. He's just practicing a lost human magic/art form for Poetic reasons (ie, helping bring down an empire with the tools of a culture they genocided). They can reflect or invoke godly power - and the strongest ones usually use godsblood in their construction, but it's less like the Service Weapon and more like...somewhere in between aposematic coloration and rubbing darts on poison dart frogs and then letting the frogs go, lol. It's a borrowing or a mimicry more than tapping the source. And they can also form around archetypes that don't necessarily have a god attached, but that are just powerful forces in the natural world or patterns that exist in human life.

tldr I think it would be natural for Jesse to see them and think "probably OOP over there" but that they don't technically actually fit by the FBC's categorization? or if so they're a lesser type

(there's one sort-of exception in canon, the God Mask, which summons the primordial chaos of The Maelstrom to the wearer and rips apart both the wearer and the universe to transform them into a New God foundational to the New Universe but uhhhh he doesn't have the materials to make that one here even if he wanted to give it another go)

ANYWAY it would also depend a lot on what he made the individual mask to do, probably, so we'll see what he messes around with!

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? So, Avalon is a telepath/empath, but all of their abilities are intended to work with the realm they came from. On the Barge, their telepathy functions more like an ability that they’re using than a sense that’s just “on” all the time. Their ability to contact her telepathically would interact with Hotline — they’d feel it blocking them, and they might be able to kind of “push” on it like knocking on a door.
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? Sure.
Can she use Launch to throw your character? If we plot it out, sure!
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? No.

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Yes.
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? Avalon would be able to sense that Jesse has some kind of psychic protection, and they’d be able to kind of poke at it, but I won’t have them try to actually break through it unless we plot something beforehand.
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? Outside of sensing it and kind of “pushing” on it, no.

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Nope, don't think so.
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? Yes!
Can she use Launch to throw your character? Yep.
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? Yes. If something comes up where he turns into an active threat, he'd probably even appreciate someone taking him out.

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Yes.
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? Hmm, he might. His ability to see and feel other people's emotions and motivations is almost supernatural in and of itself. If he came across the right prompting, he might be able to sense there's a break or a different sort of personality in there, too. I'll check with you if we hit that situation and make sure it's okay on your end.
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? No, I don't think so. Will's empathy 'condition' is a one-way observer only sort of thing.

Vincent can be convoluted, especially if you aren't familiar with FF7 canon so let me know if you have any questions!

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Probably not. There's honestly some things that really aren't explained about Vincent but at least telepathy doesn't really seem to play much into his OG/Dirge timeline (which is the canon I'm playing him from).

Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? I do prefer that moments like these be kept framed in an open ended prose (e.g. Jesse reaches out with Launch, seeking to wrest Vincent from harm's way. ) but I am perfectly okay with using it on Vincent in general. You know, without needing to message for permission first. I'll work with ya! :D

Can she use Launch to throw your character? Same as above/totally down for The Bit sometime happening!

Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? So tentatively no here. Interestingly, this is one of those cases where Jesse could probably use Seize and NOT kill the individual. Vincent just doesn't die and has a lot of mental securities against trauma through psychic 'damage' besides. But I'm also not sure if Jesse COULD. Firstly, he's already playing host to Chaos, a planetary 'WEAPON' whose purpose is to destroy all life as part of a cycle to launch off a dying world to find another to inhabit. Can she Seize something that's already possessed? I'm fairly sure if it did happen Polaris would probably protect her from the crazy that is trying to possess Vincent but!

Anyway if this happens, it would need to be talked out in advance for sure. It's one of those spoopy situations you run into cross-canon and the two might just... cancel one another out in the end.

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Depending on what's going on, could be a possible solution.

Would your character be able to sense Polaris? ??? Honestly not sure. I only know a very limited amount of the canon so I'd need a little more info on how Polaris exists before I can make that call.

Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? There shouldn't be anything Vincent does (other than magic induced status ailments) that would interact with Polaris. Unless Jesse tries to Seize Vincent. Which, see above. XD

Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? Yeah, but I think he has enough defenses for it not to kill him outright, though it would certainly be a Bad Time for him regardless.

They’d be more likely to try to leave a message, but I’ll keep that in mind! I also like the idea of them leaving a dead air “voicemail”. Once they figure out that she has an ability that blocks them, they’re going to want to learn more, but they’ll ask questions before they just start messing with it.

Vincent: Walking pack of horror movie monsters + one demonic entity of destruction. NBD In Control terms, he would probably 100% targeted for FBC containment protocols. Just some random guy, living in a room in the Oldest House. XD

Yeah I was thinking most of Vincent's transformations, not just Chaos, would probably toss Jesse 'out' because the transformations do (game mechanics wise) protect from mental-based status ailments. But especially Chaos.

Read some more about Polaris plus what you said here. Vincent might be able to sense something 'off' but only in a vague way. A bit of a combination of supernatural senses and the way beasts might pick up on frequencies humans can't. Probably lean toward when Polaris is actively doing something, opposed to a 'passive' presence and for some like... important RP moment. No sense in wasting good CR fodder. Will be looking forward to shenanigans!

Not wrong. But also imagine Jesse opening the door to a room one day and finding this guy reading at a table, coffin in the background like nbd.

"Who are you?" "Vincent." "Right. Where's the OoP?" Vincent stares at her. "...Altered Item? It's the coffin right?" "...No." "...Then what are you in here for?" "Can't leave unless the director authorizes it." "I'm the director!" "Nice to meet you."

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Nope, she has no psychic ability
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? Yes
Can she use Launch to throw your character? Yes!
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? Probably not; we can discuss in the unlikely event it ever comes up

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Sure!
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? Nope
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? Maybe, so let's hammer it out! One of Moira's passive abilities is a fae-like glamour: magic that makes other people perceive her as fully human. She doesn't control it; it's just something her body/brain/magical aura/whatever does on automatic. I'd classify that as non-negotiated mental influencing even though it's not an aggressive or offensive ability, so if you'd like Polaris to negate that and allow Jesse to see Moira as she really is, I'm happy to roll with that (and it will give Moira a nasty shock if she realizes anyone can see through it!). Without it Moira still looks mostly human, but she has big, dark eyes more like a seal than a human, and claws instead of finger- and toenails--it's enough to be uncanny and mark her as something Other.

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Nope!
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? Sure!
Can she use Launch to throw your character? Also sure! (Although because of his warden deal teleportation powers, he'd probably teleport mid-throw to keep himself from landing roughly.)
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? Sure! (Less likely to ever be necessary since Norton is a warden, but on the record as open to it if, like, there's ever a flood where Norton is evil or Jesse is evil or if a situation arose where it could come up.)

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Sure! (And Norton would be very grateful for it.) With the caveat of plotting for it first to make sure it doesn't interfere with other bits of a plot.
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? Nope!
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? Norton's warden deal of having interdimensional teleportation powers might be something Polaris can pick up on? Aside from that, probably nothing else. Norton's basically normal human with some pharadyne powers attached by the Admiral.

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Nope!
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? Yes
Can she use Launch to throw your character? Yes
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? Yes! (Pretty sure 'being undead' would not prevent it from killing him, but who knows.) Having his actions under someone/something else's control is almost a trigger for Ashton and he will take it very badly, regardless of surrounding circumstances, but frankly if it happens he absolutely had it coming.

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? Yes. (He does have some supernatural influence going on but it's internal, for lack of a better word.)
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? If/when he gets aura vision back, maybe? It's not an exact science, so Polaris' influence might show up as an overlay or outline.
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? Attempting to use his Sense the Sin ability on Jesse will just fizzle out; it's inherently a malevolent ability and it's powered by/learned from demons from hell. There's a few other misc. abilities he doesn't have under default inmate caps that'd also not work, but they're a lot more obviously mental influencing/control.
