Permissions: OOPs! All Powers!

Objects of Power, or OoPs, are objects with thematic, extradimensional powers that grant Jesse the ability to use them when she is bound to them. As of post-game, she has access to the following OoPs:

  • The Service Weapon: a gun that ordains her by the BOARD to be the Director of the FBC. While its default form (Grip) is a basic handgun, it can also change shape to function as a shotgun (Shatter), a semi-automatic (Spin), an armor-piercing charged gun (Pierce), explosive charged rounds (Charge), and a sticky grenade launcher (Surge), though it will always be handgun sized. Rather than traditional bullets, it fires chunks of itself, and thus recharges over time. Canonically able to be used as other weapons and implied to be Excalibur.
Anyone who tries to steal the Weapon will not be able to fire it - you need to be bound to it for that, and it is bound singularly to Jesse.
  • Hotline: a Bakelite telephone that allows her to speak clearly with extradimensional entities, or the dead.
This means that rather than being able to directly contact Jesse, any initial attempts made by a character to contact her psychically will instead come through as a psychic overlay to Jesse, with no clear indication she has received the message from the sending character until/unless she directly contacts them in return.
  • Merry-Go-Round Horse: Grants Evade, which allows her to move in quick bursts of movement to dodge attacks.
  • Floppy disk: Grants Launch, which allows her to telekinetically hoist up to three large items, including people, and throw them around. Essentially amplifying her already-present telekinetic ability.
  • Home Safe: Grants the Shield ability, which lets her grab random items or debris around her to shield herself, and also fire them at offenders.
  • X-Ray Light Box: This allows her to Seize people, forcibly possessing individuals for brief periods but killing them from the psychic trauma afterwards.
  • Benicoff TV: Allows Jesse to Levitate, reaching a height of around 10 yards and allowing her to fall at a safe speed.

  • There's also the matter of Polaris herself: regardless of whether she's an alternate dimensional being attached to Jesse, or an innate part of Jesse manifested by Polaris or Hedron's general existence, the end result is the same - Jesse is the most powerful parautilitarian in the history of the FBC, and primed to be the next Director due to the massive amount of connections she can make to OoPs. As well, Polaris grants her some other abilities.

  • Jesse cannot be possessed or corrupted by any malevolent entity; Polaris essentially "silences" them to prevent them taking hold.
  • She can extend this protection to others, both by actively forcing out other entities, and by being a passive battery to the HRA units that protect other FBC agents from the Hiss.
  • The ability to connect to and travel through the Astral Plane unharmed, and by extension connect to multiple objects with extradimensional powers at no personal risk.
  • An implicit sense of where she is supposed to be going; less foresight or prophetic senses as much as a general vibe or particularly accurate gut instinct, as Polaris is shown to be guiding her to some degree.

  • Because some of these could of course be affecting other characters without their IC permission, here are some OOC permissions!

Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? genuinely no idea if mothsong would count - normally a human couldn't hear it at all, and it's not psychic, just very teeny tiny gravitational waves. if anything, the Hotline might be able to pick it up and relay it to her when normally it would just ripple by. but possibly zero interaction!
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? lol sure, although he'll be fussy as a cat about it, and might fight it with his own TK
Can she use Launch to throw your character? jeez lady take him to dinner first
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? he has SOME defenses that I think would not keep her out but would cause it to be less traumatizing for him/he probably wouldn't die - he's kind of amphibious with regard to eldritch shit, and as Crowned With Eyes it's very "he can perceive and understand the deep patters/veils of madness that others can't" vibe. so if there's a meaningful plot opportunity for it MAYBE/we can discuss it

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? probably but it might depend on the circumstances
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? he might get glimpses, when Polaris is especially Present, but he might not know what to make of it
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? nah his mental abilities are mostly internal rather than external, and the powers he can use on other people are purely physical manipulation based on gravity changes

    Kahl
Would your character be able to interact with the Hotline? Kahl has the ability to walk in people's dreams, so i think the Hotline would block that if she was napping out of her cabin? he hasn't been using it much on the barge though
Can Jesse use Launch to rescue your character? No - Kahl's divine will won't let him be moved around by someone else
Can she use Launch to throw your character? see above!
Would you be alright with Jesse using Seize on your character, if the need arose? I'd be fine with her trying but I think they'd repel hard like positive magnets, because to go into Kahl *is* to be subject to his internal psychic/divine realm. Could be fun to explore sometime if he ever goes into a big messy destruction plot

Would you like Jesse to be able to use Polaris to free your character of outside supernatural influence? i think IC he would react to it really poorly because he's got issues with silence, specifically, but OOC I'm down
Would your character be able to sense Polaris? yes
Would your character's abilities interact with Polaris in any way? Kahl himself is fundamentally extradimensional, but one of the few real limits on gods in his books is that they can't read minds or do mind control magic - Souls Are Their Own. So he won't be trying any of that directly. He might make Dimmyi masks at some point, which are a magical art that like, uses the power of archetype to grant powers/impose a role on the wearer. I imagine she's familiar enough with OOPs and would classify a mask as such, and wouldn't put one on, lol. but polaris could maybe crack one if she did.

I picture if you don't understand it, it sounds like a cross between like, whalesong and those terrible nasa recreations of What It Sounds Like On Other Planets

and - hm! The masks are not necessarily directly wired to gods, or to Kahl himself. He's just practicing a lost human magic/art form for Poetic reasons (ie, helping bring down an empire with the tools of a culture they genocided). They can reflect or invoke godly power - and the strongest ones usually use godsblood in their construction, but it's less like the Service Weapon and more like...somewhere in between aposematic coloration and rubbing darts on poison dart frogs and then letting the frogs go, lol. It's a borrowing or a mimicry more than tapping the source. And they can also form around archetypes that don't necessarily have a god attached, but that are just powerful forces in the natural world or patterns that exist in human life.

tldr I think it would be natural for Jesse to see them and think "probably OOP over there" but that they don't technically actually fit by the FBC's categorization? or if so they're a lesser type

(there's one sort-of exception in canon, the God Mask, which summons the primordial chaos of The Maelstrom to the wearer and rips apart both the wearer and the universe to transform them into a New God foundational to the New Universe but uhhhh he doesn't have the materials to make that one here even if he wanted to give it another go)

ANYWAY it would also depend a lot on what he made the individual mask to do, probably, so we'll see what he messes around with!
